Changing the Time Zone Exercise

Task

Move servera to Amsterdam's time zone, and confirm that the clock itself never moved.

Host: servera
New time zone: Amsterdam
Original: Etc/UTC

Record the current configuration
```
timedatectl
date
```
Note the Time zone line and the offset beside it.
Find the time zone name Amsterdam uses

Time zones are named by region and city, not by country.
```
timedatectl list-timezones | grep -i amsterdam
```
tzselect does the same job interactively It walks you through continent, country, and region, then prints the name. It changes nothing, so it is safe to explore.

Set the new time zone

sudo timedatectl set-timezone Europe/Amsterdam

Confirm only the display changed
```
timedatectl
date
date -u
```
The clock never moved Local time now reads two hours ahead, and universal time is unchanged. The system stores UTC and converts on display, which is why changing a time zone is safe.

Put the original back

sudo timedatectl set-timezone Etc/UTC
timedatectl
