Course weeks
-
Week 01
Course Introduction and Command-Line Refresher
This week we will review the course, access both lab environments, and refresh Linux command-line fundamentals.
-
Week 02
Shell Expansions, Quoting, Transferring Files, and Regular Expressions
This week we will look at what Bash does to a command before it runs, move files between systems, and search text with regular expressions.
-
Week 03
Customizing the Shell and Bash Scripting
This week we will make the shell work the way we want it to, then turn the commands we already know into scripts that run them for us.
-
Week 04
Scheduling Tasks with at, cron, and systemd Timers
This week we will schedule work to run later: one-off jobs with at, recurring jobs with cron, and the systemd timers that run RHEL's own system tasks.
-
Week 05
Analyzing Logs, Synchronizing Time, Tuning Performance, and Serving Web Pages
This week we will read the system's own record of what happened, keep its clock honest, tune it for the work it does, and stand up a web server.
-
Week 06
Managing Security with SELinux and Archiving Files
This week we will see how SELinux limits every process to the files its job needs, fix the denials a web server runs into, and bundle and compress files with tar.
-
Week 07
Managing Network Security
This week we will control which connections reach a server, sorting traffic into firewalld zones, opening the services and ports a host should answer, and teaching SELinux to allow a web server onto a nonstandard port.
-
Week 08
Midterm Exam
This week is the Midterm exam. Work through the study guide, write the steps for every item in your notes, and use those notes on the exam.
